Staff Feature: Susan Schindler gets ready for Santa Cruise

As we get ready to transition into the off-season and prepare for our Santa Cruises – we’d like to introduce you to Susan Schindler, who makes sure all of our Santa Cruises run smoothly!

This is Susan’s 12th year working at the Cruise Line, and she’s been working during our Santa Cruises since they started three years ago. Susan is from central Illinois, and lived in Texas, Washington and Illinois before settling in Lake Geneva. Susan and her husband, Carl, raised their four children here, and they now have two grandchildren who keep them busy.

WORKING AT CRUISE LINE

Susan has done just about every job at Cruise Line (except driving the boats) – from selling tickets and taking reservations to bartending and crewing the boats. She started the year after her daughter Samantha started and really liked it. She is currently our Group Tour Salesperson, and works with tour operators and tour bus companies to book boat tours for large groups.

“I have stayed this long because of the people I work with and the fact that I get to do what I love every day and be on the lake,” Susan said. “I enjoy interacting with people and trying to provide the best customer service experience for our guests – whether it is one person going on a tour or a group of 100.”

Susan’s favorite part of working here is her coworkers.

“My coworkers make it fun to come in to work each day,” she said. “And no two days are alike. Plus we have a summer harbor and a winter harbor, which is a nice change of pace.”

Her favorite cruise is the Mailboat Tour because riders get closer to the estates and each mail jumper makes the tour their own.

“The mail jumpers put their own personalities into the tour and really make it special and unique each time,” Susan said.

SANTA CRUISE

Susan started working with our Santa Cruises three years ago when we first started them. She’s our night officer manager – read: the one running around making sure everything goes smoothly. She also works with large groups coming to Santa Cruise to book their tickets and arrange dinner options at Pier 290.

“I don’t work on the boats during the Santa Cruises but I do hop on a tour once each season to enjoy the experience,” Susan said.

Santa Cruise is a great way to enjoy the holiday season while helping out a good cause, and the kids really love the tour. Susan’s favorite part is seeing the kids on board get so excited when they hear their name called by Santa from his “Nice List.”

“The Santa Cruise is truly a unique experience and it’s so different from our tours during our regular season. Our staff does an awesome job making sure every part of it is special for all ages to enjoy,” Susan said.
